My Journey to the USA
There I was in Brazil, after graduating in advertising and quitting the job that was holding me back from my dreams. I decided to venture to the biggest Brazilian city in the third world, Sao Paulo. There, I completed some other courses before I started looking for a job. After a while, the only thing I received was some occasional work as a freelancer, which was barely enough to pay for my beer on the weekend. After 18 months I realized that it was not the type of work for me.
Sick and tired of everything, I wanted to change... make things different. I wanted the international experience of graphic design, work, and the lifestyle. I started my journey by first sending a couple of emails around the world; London, Ireland, Italy, and the United States. I was asking for an opportunity to work, not really expecting a response. To my surprise that same day I had a lot of feedback, but the only one with a real opportunity to meet my goals was Webtivity Design Solutions. So it all began with the email response from Priscilla.
I kept in touch with her, probably about more than a hundred emails in less than a month. She had lots of questions before I came, and finally she said yes. So I decided to come for three months. |

This was a good amount of time for us to get to know each other and I was able to show her my abilities.
What a crazy guy, coming to the United States without knowing anybody, for a job that for all I knew wasn't even real. You know, it could have been someone playing around with me, who knows? You can find everything on the web, good or bad.
It wasn't easy to leave my family, friends, and especially my girlfriend who supported me since the beginning.
When I first came, I didn't know what to expect…and I was not sure if I made the right choice. Even as I walked into the airport, I didn't know if there was really someone waiting for me. As soon as I grabbed my bags, there he was, Cory holding a sign with my name on it. Thank God!
Working as a designer here has been one of the greatest experiences that I have ever had. Especially working with the great team at Webtivity Designs. Dealing with differences, clients, culture, and manners - these things helping me improve my skills in design and to be a better professional. So I'm thankful for everybody in the company.
Now its time to go home, it's Christmas, and I still have a couple of weeks here. Only time will tell if I will be coming back next year? I hope I can!
